Photo Highlights of Sailing to Skagway, Alaska

The ship sat here for perhaps half an hour to give everyone on board time to take lots of photos. My sisters joined me on our room's balcony to take the last of our pictures.
As we moved on, we left the ice behind and only the ripples of the water were visible now. A magnificent day!

The last part of our Norwegian cruise to Alaska was, to me, the most magnificent of all. Prior to arriving at Sawyer Glacier, we cruised the Inside Passage to Skagway, enjoying several hours of the grandest ocean and mountain scenery one could ever hope to see. While my sisters were up on deck for part of this journey, I spent three hours on our little private balcony soaking in the peace, quiet, and breathtaking beauty of an Alaska completely devoid of civilization. The only sounds were the soft sloshing of the water as the ship cut through the waves, punctuated occasionally by the sound of a small ice floe bumping against the hull, a common happening each year. Here are just a few of the many photos I snapped during this period of time. ![]() The ice floes calved from the glacier increased in number the closer we got to it, until we were finally in a sea of ice -- so much so, in fact, that the ship couldn't get as close to the glacier as it had a week earlier. As shown above, the water was green, not blue, but as the evening wore on and we got closer, the green faded.
We arrived in Skagway the next day, where we enjoyed our final land excursion, the "White Pass Scenic Railway" before going on to Prince Rupert in Canada.
