Barb's Stress Reduction Tips

To lower your stress level and also fight against the feelings of isolation that are so common among homebased workers, network regularly with business friends. If a local home-business network doesn't exist, start one yourself.

Read publications and Websites that give you a sense of family or direct contact with other home-business owners. Communicating regularly with your peers is both relaxing and energizing. Change of any kind reduces stress, while an exchange of ideas through networking is always motivational. As a business friend told me recently, "My relationship with other women in business is very important to me and has, in fact, made a huge difference in my ability to stay motivated."

You can also reduce your stress by adding aesthetic touches to your workplace, such as plants, artwork or carpeting, all of which gives one a sense of luxury. I've found that the nicer my office has become, the more productive I've become. I'm also less stressed because I'm so satisfied with my surroundings.

Whenever I look up from my computer screen, I see this picture, one of my many framed cross-stitch embroideries. I not only reduced my stress by stitching this work over a period of months, but I feel a sense of peace every time I look into the eyes of these beautiful animals.
